Creep Records
During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday Philadelphia, we had the opportunity to chat with Will Angelos from Creep Records. Creep Records is a record store, smoke shop, and gallery all in one!
This week, we are throwing it back to our very first Small Business Saturday feature. Like our friends at STUMP Plants and Front Street Cafe, Creep Records is located right in Northern Liberties.
Creep Records – The Story
Creep Records started out as a record label in the West Chester area in 1993. They initially specialized in throwing house shows until opened their brick-and-mortar location in Philadelphia about 9 years ago. They have a physical location in West Chester, where it all started, as well.
When moving to Philadelphia, the owner of Creep had some friends in the area – one that owned a smoke shop and one that owned a gallery – that wanted to be apart of the new business venture. So, they decided to open Creep Records, combining all three businesses into one!
Creep Records – The Location
When looking at locations to open the store, the Creep Records team decided on Northern Liberties. At the time, the Northern Liberties area was still being developed, so it was not what it is today.
Their current storefront location was put up for sale when the Schmidt’s Brewery Piazza was being built. Those developing the Piazza wanted the businesses located within the Piazza to be unique and have arts focus – Creep Records fit the bill.
Once they settled into the Piazza, the Creep Records team has been there ever since. They love that they had the opportunity to watch the Piazza and the Northern Liberties area change into what it is today. They have been lucky enough to have a lot of local support and regular customers.
Creep likes to have a personal relationship with their customers – the staff is on a first-name basis with 80% of those who shop at Creep!
Creep Records – The Shop
As we mentioned before, the shop is made up of three equal parts:
The Record Store
The records portion of the store focuses mainly on vinyl records, but they also sell CDs and even cassette tapes. Creep sells both new and used vinyl records – ranging in genre and year of release.
The Smoke Shop
The smoke shop portion of the store features glass pipes, water pipes, and rigs. All of their glassworks are locally made from a quality, American glass only. The smoke shop also sells vaporizers and, as an authorized retailer, their products come with a manufacturer’s warranty. For more information on the products offered in Creep’s smoke shop, stop in or visit their website.
The Gallery + Events
Creep is also a venue for art and artists. Creep frequently hosts live shows in their space. Check out their upcoming events calendar for more information.
