Getting Started with Google My Business

Google My Business is a free account that allows you to register your business online. Your business listing will show up under Google Search and Google Map results when potential customers search for related products and services. GMB is a must-have when it comes to great Local SEO.

Consider downloading the Google My Business app to access your account on your phone when you’re on the go and away from your computer or laptop. Once you have access you can get reviews, respond to reviews, and learn how to remove bad reviews from Google.

When a consumer researches your business on Google — or even searches for terms related to your business — you want to ensure they have all the information they need to visit, make a purchase, or contact your company.

Taking the photos is not and should not be difficult. You can simply use your smartphone to take particular types of pictures of your business. Definitely takee pictures of inside and outside of the business. For GMB you can focus on these types of images:

  1. Inside / Indoors
  2. Outside / Outdoors

I suggest taking picture on your phone and directly upload them using the Google My Business App, which is available for all smartphones on iOS or Android. This is FREE to download and use. Make sure to download and sign in before focusing on How To Add and Tag Pictures on GMB.

Once logged in, as mentioned, you can go to “Post” or “Photos” and simply select the photos or videos you just took on your phone. This GMB support article talks about the size and specs and what you can upload.

Don’t worry about the photo size, but make sure you aren’t using bad, illegal, or copyright photos. Once uploaded, you can tag the pictures using keywords of what the photo is representing. Use keywords that customers might search for as well.

You can then log into the dashboard on desktop or mobile to review these images. From desktop you can tag them as the following:

  • Interior
  • Exterior
  • Team
  • Product

Tagging them tells Google and customers what the picture represents so they show customers the right information.

Also, within the GMB dashboard you can see your performance insights, business information, reviews and more. You can learn how to remove bad reviews on Google from this previous blog.
