Dock Street Brewery Marketing Interview

Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with Dock Street Brewery in Philadelphia.

During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Sasha and Renata Centro-Ware from Dock Street Brewery. Located in West Philadelphia, Dock Street brews with the spirit of Philadelphia’s sudsy history to create delicious handcrafted beers every week.

Check out the other Philly breweries that we have featured, including Evil Genius and Love City Brewing Company!

Dock Street Brewery – History

Dock Street Brewery was founded in 1985 by Rosemarie Centro and Jeffrey Ware. The brewery is one of the first post-prohibition craft breweries in the country.

The company started out from an investment of $1,600 with the goal to elevate the status of beer. The name, Dock Street, is a nod to the Seaport District of Philly. In the 1700s, the Seaport District was the largest producer of beer in the country.

Today, Dock Street Brewery operates out of a 110-year old, converted firehouse. The Dock Street team has also started a new venture – a cannery and tasting lounge. The lounge is located right next door to the brewery. It serves as a space for fermenting, aging, and canning beer onsite round-the-clock.

Dock Street Brewery – The Beer

Dock Street Brewery remains best known for their large selection of experimental beers.

Their most shocking concoction? The “Walker” – a tribute to AMC’s The Walking Dead. “Walker” is an American Pale Stout with notes of cranberry, wheat, barley, and goat brains (for smokiness, of course).

This beer received national acclaim. It even landing the brewery a personal call from The Walking Dead producers.

When they’re not creating crazy unique beers, Dock Street is doing its part to give back to the Philadelphia Community. One initiative that is close to their heart is their partnership with Philadelphia’s Mighty Writers. To support education, Dock Street periodically takes donations of books, pencils, and other school supplies to donate to the non-profit. When they are running this partnership, they also offer an option to text a donation as well.

Dock Street Brewery is not a stranger to star power. Fun fact – throughout the 80s and 90s, they were the official on-set beer of the American Drama thirtysomething. Dock Street was also featured in the classic film Philadelphia, being enjoyed on screen by Denzel Washington.

Momentum Digital is back with another episode of Small Business Saturday, where we highlight a deserving company in the greater Philadelphia area. This Saturday we sat down with Melissa and Kevin, Co-Founders and Partners of Love City Brewing in Philadelphia.

Love City Brewing is all about bringing the simplicity back to drinking a good beer.  “Good people, good beer, and a good way to cap off the day”. Love City Brewing Co is your new place for a solid, high-quality beer that you know will be the perfect end to a long day at work or the start to a fun night out with friends. Stop by for a drink and sip on the fresh, crisp taste of something made only 100-feet away from you. What more could you possibly ask for?

Melissa and Kevin met about 13 years ago over a keg at a mutual friend’s house party, ever since that night they haven’t stopped talking. With Kevin’s brewing background they knew their common dream of owning a brewery in Philadelphia wasn’t too far out of reach. Together they have created an array of beers made for every type of person who may roam into their doors.

Love City Brewing Co is a bar that is one of a kind. Melissa and Kevin’s hip, minimalist-style warehouse bar is located right in between Northern Liberties and Old City. A step into Love City Brewing Co will change your perspective on how and where to drink beer.

The bar holds many events such as hosting a number of food trucks from Thursday to Sunday right inside the bar and supporting local nonprofits. Each quarter, Melissa and Kevin team up with a charity and brew a beer where a portion of the profit goes towards their cause.

Walking into Love City Brewing Co is meant to be a comfortable experience for everyone. There is space for everyone whether your in a wheelchair or walking or if you love beers or martinis. Love City also had gender-neutral bathrooms to make it known that everyone is welcome inside the walls of their warehouse bar. The diversity and beauty of this bar make it the perfect spot for parties or small gatherings.

Melissa and Kevin’s small business is unique because of their amazing business model and ability to stick to their core values throughout their 13 years in the brewing industry. Follow their Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter and visit their bar the next time you need to go out for a drink with friends.

Not only should you enjoy a beer that feels like it was made for you, but take the time to enjoy the amazing atmosphere around you.
