Google Analytics for Small Business SEO Insights

Let’s the Tactics regarding Google Analytics for Small Business SEO Insights!

Google Analytics is a free tool offering insights into your website traffic and visitor behavior. It’s vital for small businesses aiming to optimize SEO, helping you track where visitors come from, how long they stay, pages they visit, and actions before they leave. Today you will get a detailed analysis on Google Analytics for Small Business SEO.

Learn How to Leverage Google Analytics to Rank Higher on Google!

Setting Up Your Google Analytics Account

If you haven’t set up your Google Analytics account so far, now is the time! You can skip this section if you’ve already set up your account and synced it with your Google Search Console profile.

The first thing you have to do after opening Google Analytics is create an account, a fairly straightforward process made even easier by Google’s helpful instructions.

Then, implement a tracking code on your website and set up data filters to ensure you’re collecting the information most relevant to your business goals. Don’t forget to also sync your Google Analytics with Google Search Console to get that “bigger picture.”

For businesses using Google Ads, link that platform too. Syncing Google Ads and Google Analytics lets you track how your paid advertising campaigns impact website traffic.

Navigating Through Google Analytics' Reports

Once you’re logged in, notice the “Home” dashboard: a page dedicated to showing a general overview of your website traffic. What you ideally want to see is Google’s reports organized by topic on the left-hand side of the screen.

These reports will show information and insights based on two things:

  1. Dimensions: Think of these as attributes of your data, like the source of your traffic (organic search, social media) or the specific pages that visitors viewed.
  2. Metrics: These are quantitative data points associated with those dimensions, like the number of visitors from a particular source or the average time spent on a page.

What if you only want to see specific data, like organic traffic from a particular country? Introducing segments and filters:

  1. Segments: These allow you to isolate data for a specific subset of users or sessions within a report. For example, you could create a segment to view only traffic coming from mobile devices.
  2. Filters: These permanently remove unwanted data from your reports. While segments are temporary, filters provide a more permanent solution for excluding data you don’t need.

Here’s a pro tip for you: We recommend setting up an unfiltered view alongside your filtered views. This will give you a complete record of all website data, even if it’s excluded from specific reports!

3 Primary Ways To Use Google Analytics For Better SEO Results

Google Analytics gives you all the data you need (and more) to help you understand your audience and optimize your website for better search engine visibility. What matters most is how you analyze this data to learn what needs improvement and what you should focus on next.

Here are the 3 most important ways you can leverage Google Analytics to improve your small business SEO.

Illustration of rising Google search rankings through SEO, featuring an upward trending bar chart and a magnifying glass highlighting the word SEO.
1) Content Resurrection: Find Bottommost Content & Refresh Them

Let’s face it, content creation takes time and effort. But not all content performs equally. The good news? Google Analytics can help you identify existing content with hidden potential, ready to be revitalized for a traffic boost.

Here’s a powerful strategy:

Target Pages with Declining Rankings: Pages don’t maintain their top rankings forever. Traffic and clicks can fluctuate over time. To find content ripe for republishing, navigate to Acquisition > Search Console > Landing Pages.

Leveraging Comparison Power: Select a timeframe for comparison. Preferably, you want to identify content that’s been underperforming for a while.  A good starting point is comparing at least six-month periods (e.g., the most recent six months compared to the previous six months).

Prioritizing Clicks:  Sort the table by clicks to prioritize pages that were previously generating decent traffic but have seen a decline.  This could indicate a drop in rankings or a shift in user behavior.

Dive Deeper: Select a specific landing page you want to investigate further.  This will reveal valuable search query data.  Click on “Custom” and choose the timeframe you selected for comparison.  Once you’ve chosen your dates, click “Apply.”

Analyzing Ranking Trends:  Look at the “Organic Google Search average position” column.  This will reveal how the page’s ranking has changed over the selected timeframe.  A significant decline could be a sign that the content needs refreshing.

Analyzing Google Analytics for Small Business SEO will help you make informed decisions about the proper next steps. With some tweaks –  like updating information, optimizing for relevant keywords, or improving readability – you can breathe new life into these pages and watch your traffic climb!

2) Cultivating High Performers: Squeeze More Juice from Your Top Pages

We’ve established that content creation is an investment. But what about content that’s already generating traffic and conversions?

Your high-performing pages are your golden nuggets – a testament to the topics and formats that resonate with your audience. As with everything with SEO, there’s always room for improvement! Thus, that’s what we plan on doing, after helping you find those high-performing pages first.

Find Your Best-Performing Pages: Navigate to Behavior > Site Content > Top Landing Pages.  Consider filtering by “Organic” to focus on traffic driven by search engines. This is how you can find pages that are attracting visitors and converting them into leads or customers.

Optimize for Visibility and Action: Once you’ve identified your “golden nuggets,” it’s time to set them up for even higher visibility and returns. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Implement relevant, high-traffic, and low-competition keywords in your text.
  2. Review your Call to Action’s (CTA’s) wording, appearance, and position to ensure they are compelling and easy to understand.
  3. Find opportunities for refreshing the content with new information, statistics, or visuals.

Look for Hidden Potential: High-performing pages are vital, but those URLs that get high traffic but no conversions are the real diamonds in the rough.  Are they outdated? Do they need better CTAs? Find these pages and use analytic metrics like Time Spent on the Page, Click-Through Rates, and Website Speed to see what’s incorrect and how to fix it.

3) Track Your SEO Efforts with Annotations

All small businesses (and the big ones, too) are waiting for that “Hurray” moment to celebrate their website traffic growth and conversions. However, it’s equally important to track and document the SEO efforts that led you there. You can use Google Analytics Annotations for the following practices.

Benchmark Content Performance: Annotations allow you to create a snapshot of the content’s performance before any optimization efforts. Later, you can compare this benchmark to post-optimization data to measure the impact of your SEO tweaks.

Collaborative Knowledge Sharing: Annotations aren’t solitary notes. Anyone with access to your Google Analytics account can view and add annotations, and SEO loves teamwork. This is especially useful when multiple people are managing SEO in your company.

Offline Marketing Integration:  You can use Annotations to monitor and document your offline marketing efforts like print ads or TV commercials.

Marking Issues: By pinpointing online issues, like website outages or server maintenance downtimes. you can better track how these efforts impact website traffic and separate them from organic SEO trends.

In case you prefer using Google Analytics’ latest version, there are alternatives to the “annotation” feature including Chrome extensions that let you document changes and track their impact on your SEO efforts.

A Final Word

Running a small business isn’t easy, but powerful free tools like Google Analytics simplify finding errors, taking impactful actions to boost performance, and tracking how those actions improve your SEO.

Now, it’s time to put your newfound knowledge to the test starting by creating a Google Analytics account and auditing your website. Momentum helps you monitor your SEO success and plan for what’s next. Book a free quote today and we’ll help you find your way from there.

How to Optimize Google Guaranteed Ads

Learn How to Optimize Google Guaranteed Ads

With this Blog & Video we’re going to show You How to Optimize Google Guaranteed Ads for a Google Local Service!

Google Guarenteed

Recently, a client and good friends of mine, Garrison Roofing, has asked for my help to Optimize Google Guaranteed Ads that they are running. Their ads are not performing the best, and rank around 8th place when searching for roofing services in Philadelphia.

With Google Guaranteed Ads, the goal is to rank within the top 3 business in the search results to get the most business from your ads, especially if you are a company that is trying to expand in size. To rank within the top 3 is possible, but it requires some extra effort! Today were going to go over how I optimize Google Guaranteed Ads for my friend to get them within the Top 3!

What Are Google Guaranteed Ads?

One of Google’s newest advertising offerings, the Google Guaranteed program, offers distinct local service ads for small businesses and contractors. These ads are tremendously beneficial to both customers and workers alike, because they connect experienced and trusted businesses with real clients in need of help, supported with a money back guarantee. Any business in the service industry, that is eligible for the program, will see benefits from these advertisements.

The Service ads will always appear at the top of the page and above all other advertisements during a related google search, but to get your business on these ads will take some extra steps! Google will require Background Checks, Insurance Verification and Trusted Reviews from you and your business in order to participate in the program.

How to set up google guaranteed
How to Optimize Google Guaranteed Ads

Business Verification

The first step is to review your Business Verification and make sure all details are up to date. The information you provided here was required when you originally signed up, but if things have changed since then, make sure they are updated.

If you need help setting up your Google Local Service Ads, use this video and blog for a detailed tutorial and tips you wont find elsewhere!

How to Create Google Local Service Ads

Reviews

The most important step for ranking high is reviews. You will find that the businesses that rank within the top 3, have consistent glowing reviews. Reviews are the best way for Google to recognize how dependable your business is to its customers. With steady 5 star reviews from users who found your business using these ads, will indirectly inform Google that your business satisfies their customers! In turn, they will rank your service higher to generate more satisfied customers.

On the Business Verification page and in the Customer Reviews section, you will find a link to “Get Verified Reviews”. These reviews are different from ones left on your Google My Business page, because these reviews are exclusive to Guaranteed Ads. This mean, of course, that the more of these specific local service reviews you have, the better your business will rank!

Share this link with satisficed customers that you received through Google Service Ads. Through text, email, or social media; just make sure that you try to get as many customers that came from Google to use this link as you can!

Add Service Updates

Head to the Profile & Budgets section and review the “add service updates to your profile” option. If there have been any services that you do that are not selected, make sure these are updated, but only update these if you actually do the service! Also, there is a new “Covid-19” section that you can update for things like No-Contact Payments and Health and Safety, make sure you updates these as well! The more the better!

Business Hours

Review your business hours. You should be set to “Taking Customers” and the business hours should be correct. Pro Tip! the hours on this page do not have to be the hours which your business actually works, you can make your business open 24 hours for the maximum chance of getting new leads! But, you need to be able to answer calls no matter the time, even if they come in at 3 am. This option isn’t the best for everyone, but try to set your business hours to the most you possibly to get more calls and customers!

Budget & Bidding

Review your budget. The way Google Guaranteed ads work is you are only charged if you actually get a lead, compared to other ads which will charge you just if your ad was shown to somebody. Because of this difference, I recommend that you set your budget higher than what youre willing to spend.

Budgeting your ads this way will show your Service Ads to more Google users and give you more chances to get a new lead! If you start going over budget, you can always scale back your ads and lower the budget!

For instance, Our client, Garrison Roofing, wants to spend $1,000 per week on ads. So, we set their Budget higher to $2,500 to get the most calls possible! We monitor the activity closely, and if we start to go over the budget we begin to dial back to average in on $1,000 spent on ads per week! This is the best strategy for getting the most out of your Guarenteed Ads!

Photos, Services and Messages

Update your photos, Industry Services and Message Leads. Updates pictures of the Cover, Logo, Projects etc. options with pictures of business and work you have completed, these pictures should be high quality, show this stuff off! Your service options should be set to as many of the services you offer, however, do not turn on a service that you don’t offer. and your Message Leads should be turned on in order to receive messages from potential customers instead of only calls!

Service Area

Adjust your service area. Try to make your business service area as large as possible for the most calls. Just make sure you are able to do work in these places if you get a call. You can also exclude certain area codes if you don’t think your business will do well in these locations.

Managing Leads

The most important way to Optimize Google Guaranteed Ads is to manage every single lead you receive through the Ads. This needs to be done on a daily basis. Many Service Ad users often overlook or forget about this, and are losing out on their ads performance. Google rewards business who manage this section effectively, because it shows them that you respond to every lead you get in some form or another. Organize every lead you get in this section, even if they are leads that don’t result in a sale.

Go through your New and Active leads daily, and organize them into “Booked”, “Completed”, or “Archived”. If you completed the service, send your client a link to your review page, then move their phone number into “Completed”. If a new lead just came in and you scheduled a time to take things further, changed the lead to “Booked” and if the lead did not result in a sale, archive it.

You can also respond to any missed calls and review voicemails on this page, this is useful if your business receives a lot of leads. Though, its best to answer calls and messages as soon as they come in!

How to Verify Your Google Ads Account

Google Ads is one of the most powerful tools for reaching new customers online. But to maintain a trustworthy advertising ecosystem, Google now requires Advertiser Account Verification for most accounts — especially new ones or those managing high-spend campaigns.

If you’ve received a notification or email from Google requesting verification, it’s critical to complete this process before the deadline, or your ads could be paused.

Watch: Google Ads Account Verification Video Tutorial

What is Google Advertiser Account Verification??

Think of Google’s Advertiser Verification as your official stamp of legitimacy in the eyes of the world’s biggest ad platform. It’s a necessary checkpoint that ensures you’re a real business, playing by the rules, and delivering real value to real people.

Here’s what this process is designed to do:

  • Confirm your identity and business legitimacy

  • Prevent fraudulent and deceptive advertising

  • Protect users from misleading, harmful, or dangerous content

  • Improve ad transparency by letting users know who’s behind the message

Once you’re verified, your ads are eligible to run without interruption, and users will be able to view the “About this advertiser” info directly in your ad — adding a layer of credibility that can set you apart from the competition.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Complete Google Ads Verification

Let’s walk through this process. It’s not complicated, but it does require accuracy and attention to detail:

How to Verify a Google Ads Advertiser Account
Step-by-Step Guide to Advertiser Account Verification:

Let’s walk through this process. It’s not complicated, but it does require accuracy and attention to detail.

Step 1: Log in to Google Ads

Go to ads.google.com and sign in using your account credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to the Verification Section

Click on Tools & Settings in the top menu, then go to Billing & Settings and select Advertiser Verification.

You might also see a red banner at the top of your dashboard prompting you to complete the verification process. That’ll take you straight there.

Step 3: Select Your Business Type

Google will ask you to identify your role. Choose from:

  • Individual advertiser

  • Business or organization

  • Agency managing multiple clients

Pick the option that best describes how you use Google Ads.

Step 4: Provide Verification Information

Depending on what you selected, you’ll be prompted to upload one or more of the following:

  • Government-issued ID (if you’re an individual)

  • Business registration documents or licenses

  • EIN (Employer Identification Number)

  • A recent utility bill or business document with your official address

Pro tip: The name and address you submit must match your legal documents exactly. Any inconsistency can slow things down or cause rejection.

Step 5: Submit Your Information

Take a moment to review everything before you hit submit. You may also be asked a few questions about your advertising goals or business category.

Step 6: Wait for Review

After submission, Google will review your info. This typically takes 3 to 5 business days, though times can vary. You’ll get an email letting you know whether your verification was successful or if additional action is needed.

Google Ads Account Verification
What Happens if You Don't Verify?

If you skip the verification or miss the deadline:

  • Your ads will be paused

  • Your account access may be restricted

  • You could lose the ability to run or manage campaigns altogether

In short, it’s not worth putting this off. Complete the verification to avoid interruptions and keep your campaigns running smoothly.

What is Google Ads? (A Quick Refresher for 2025)

Google Ads is Google’s advertising platform — and one of the most effective ways for businesses to get in front of high-intent searchers. Your ads can appear on:

  • Google Search

  • YouTube

  • Gmail

  • Google Display Network (GDN)

It operates on a pay-per-click (PPC) model, meaning you’re only charged when someone clicks on your ad.

Why Small Businesses Love Google Ads:
  • Top-of-page visibility on search results

  • Advanced targeting by location, behavior, keywords, and more

  • Flexible daily budgets that fit your goals and cash flow

  • Real-time tracking of performance and ROI

  • Local geotargeting to capture foot traffic and nearby leads

  • Easy campaign setup, editing, and scaling as you grow

It’s fast, powerful, and one of the most measurable ways to grow your brand online.

What to Do Next

If Google has asked you to verify your account, don’t wait. Here’s your action plan:

  • Log in and complete the verification steps above

  • Gather your documents in advance to avoid delays

  • Keep your business name, address, and contact details consistent across everything

  • Monitor your inbox and Ads dashboard for updates or next steps

Google Ads Verification is a Must, Not a Maybe

The verification process isn’t just a hoop to jump through — it’s your ticket to long-term credibility, campaign stability, and brand trust.

It tells Google you’re serious. It shows your audience you’re legitimate. And it protects your business from unexpected account shutdowns.

Take it seriously, get it done right, and you’ll be able to advertise with confidence knowing your brand is built on trust and transparency.

How To Perform A Local SEO Audit: The Right Way!

How To Perform a Local SEO Audit

Want to learn how to perform a Local SEO Audit? Use this article and video to guide you and improve your Local SEO and ranking on Google!

Local SEO is Important

Local SEO is an essential part of any business’s marketing strategy. When potential customers search for a product or service in their area, only the most optimized business profiles will show up at the top of the page.

With more local businesses establishing their profiles online, it’s important to do more to stand out from the rest and rank in the 3 pack. To find out how your profile currently ranks and what optimizations it needs, you need to perform a Local SEO Audit.

What is a 3 Pack?

The goal for every business that invests in Local SEO, is to have their business appear in the 3 pack. The 3-pack is the top 3 business profiles that appear in their own section at the top of Google searches. These profiles get well over 50% of local search intent, and receive the most clicks, calls and customers.

Most potential customers do not look further than these top 3 businesses in their area, because these profiles have a good reputation, hundreds of 5 star reviews, and will offer exactly what the user needs. These profiles are optimized for Local SEO, and without understanding how local SEO works, it will be very tough to compete. Luckily, with effort and consistency, any business can get their profile to rank in the 3 pack!

How to Optimize Your Business Profile

Complete Your Profile

Before you perform a Local SEO Audit, make sure your Google Business Profile is completed with correct information. To judge how complete your profile is, use the new Google Business Profile Strength label. Once your profile is complete, consider putting extra effort in the following, everything here will benefit your profile’s rank:

Add Tons of Content

Add as many pictures and posts to your profile as you can. This doesn’t have to be done all at once, but make it a habit to upload and update your Google Business profile consistently. Google’s algorithm prefers active profiles that put time into their profiles and will rank them higher. Make sure to use keywords in your posts, and geotag your images for the best results. Learn more about the Best Content for Local SEO here.

Reputation Management

Google prefers businesses that have a lot of 5 star reviews, and those who respond to all questions and concerns. Actively Managing your reputation will improve your rank, and give potential customers a good first impression.

Citations

Citations are all of the websites and directories that have a listing for your business. You can sign up for most of these websites for free, and receive crucial backlinks to your business. Create business profiles on as many websites as you can, some most well known websites that offer citations are:

  • Google
  • Bing
  • Apple Maps
  • Facebook
  • Yelp
  • Better Business Bureau
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Angie’s List
  • Thumbtack
  • FourSquare

NAP Consistency

NAP Consistency refers to the consistency of your Name, Address, and Phone number everywhere your business is listed. This includes all of the citation websites above, social media, and your business website. Make sure every listing has the exact same NAP, because if there is conflicting information, your profile rank will suffer.

How to Perform a Local SEO Audit

Once you have completed all of the steps above to the best of your ability, it is time to audit your Local SEO and see how you did. The audit will take all of these actions into account, and also tell you what more you can do to improve. There are many tools and websites that offer SEO Audits, though many are a paid service, we recommend using Moz and BrightLocal because they offer detailed free trials.

Moz

An Audit from Moz will review your citations using the Moz Local Listing Score. Any citations missing from major websites or directories will be calculated to give you a score. You need this score to be high for brand awareness and to rank higher. Use this tool to help you create as many citations as possible, and fill out any that you are missing.

Bright Local

A Local Search Audit from Bright Local will include some more technical issues with your Local SEO. It will review your Links & Website Authority, Rankings, Website SEO, and Google Business Profile. Bright Local will also compare these results with your competitors to give you a better idea of how you can improve.

Google Business Profile Strength Optimization

How to Optimize Your Google Business Profile Strength

Want to know more about the new ‘Profile Strength’ feature? Learn about the changes to GMB in regards to the new Google Business Profile Strength in this video & blog!

What is Profile Strength?

Google’s transition from Google my Business to the new Google Business Profile has brought a few changes to how business owners manage their profiles on Google. One of the most controversial changes was the new Profile Strength label. This label measures how complete your profile is.

So a fully filled out profile should have a complete strength label… right? Well, not exactly. Today, I’m going to go over Google Business Profile Strength Optimization and everything you need to know about this new feature!

Changes to Google Business Profile

In order to access this Strength Label, you need to go to your Google Business Profile. But, Because of the switch from Google My Business (GMB) to Google Business Profile, you can no longer use your GMB app or the backend page for editing multiple business profiles. Now, you need to search for your business on Google Search in order to edit your profile.

Google made this change so creating and updating a profile is more user friendly to beginners. This is great, but the change also hurts everyone else who took advantage of the advanced features of GMB. This is a common trend for a lot of the changes from GMB to Google Business Profile, including the Profile Strength label.

About Profile Strength

The New Profile Strength label basically is a measurement from Google of how complete your profile is. By accurately completing all of the information recommended by Google, your strength measurement will increase.

So, this must mean that once you fill out all of the information, your Strength icon should be at 100%, right? Nope! The reason this profile strength feature is so controversial is because your profile can never be at 100% complete, unless you sign up and pay for advertisements! Many Google users and marketing agencies have been taking notice of this shameful sales tactic, and calling this label a scam!

This label not being at 100% complete can trick beginner business owners into believing they need to pay for ads to see any success on Google. This is not true, because in many cases a properly optimized profile and professional SEO work create more traffic and sales than any paid advertising!

Putting Google’s sleezy sales tactic aside, this does not mean that the profile strength feature is completely useless. It can actually be useful for letting you know if you are missing any information on your Business Profile. Google Business Profile Strength Optimization is pretty straightforward, though  just keep in mind you can’t get to the  “Look’s Good” 100% strength unless you buy ads.

Google business Profile Strength Label
Google Business Profile Strength Optimization

To Optimize your Google Business Profile Strength, head over to your business page by searching for it on Google and make sure you are logged into the Google account associated with your profile. Here you can edit and optimize your business profile.

Edit Profile

The first step is to fill out every single entry within the “Edit profile” option. Make sure all of your business information is correct, and fill out the About, Contact, Location, Hours, and More tabs. There have been a lot of new options added from Google because of the effects that covid had on businesses so you need to make sure you have these filled out. Google also updates the options from time to time so it’s always worth it to double check if you are missing anything.

Pro Tip: For your Business Description, make sure you get to as close to the 750 word limit as you can and fill text with searchable keywords about your products and services for the best results!

Add Updates

It is important to update your Google Business Profile regularly, just as you would any other social media for your business. Google’s algorithm prefers profiles which are updated frequently, over those who never post! Take advantage of this and post your content updates, learn more about how here. Be sure to include keywords in your posts, and geotag your images!

Complete Info

Once you believe you completed everything, double check by checking your Profile Strength meter. Select the “Complete Info” text underneath the label. Google will then show you any information you are missing that needs to be filled out for the best strength possible. If you click on this option, and Google is only recommending you to sign up for ads, then you can stop here! This means your profile is 100% complete, even though Google will not admit that. Of course, you can sign up for ads if you want to, and there are many benefits to them, but they shouldn’t be required for completing a profile.

Your Profile Strength Is Now Complete!

Thanks for taking the time to learn about Google Business Profile Strength Optimization! A fully built out and optimized profile will see much for traffic and success then one who is missing information. By following the steps above, you can complete your profile!

Though, a completed profile doesn’t mean its the best it can be, there is a lot more you can do to improve your Google Business Profile with SEO.
