Cycle Brewerytown Marketing Interview

Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with Cycle Brewerytown in Philadelphia.

Momentum Digital is back with another episode of Small Business Saturday, where we highlight a deserving company in the greater Philadelphia area. This Saturday we sat down with Tiffany the founder of Cycle Brewerytown.

Cycle Brewerytown – The Story

Seven years ago, Tiffany went through a major life change. At the time, she was working for her husband. Tiffany’s job involved doing various financial and accounting duties when she decided it was time for her to branch out on her own.

She quit her job, left her husband, and decided to pursue her passion for spinning. Tiffany suffers from severe anxiety and cycling has impacted her life very positively. Before she started her business, she could never see herself as a cycling instructor, let alone a business owner. Cycling has helped her manage her anxiety by helping her focus and stop thinking about all of the nonsense going on in her mind.

She is originally from Miami but found herself in Philadelphia a few years ago. In pursuit of a potential spinning career, she worked as a cycling instructor, teaching classes at different cycling studios throughout the city.

For years, her life was traveling to different studios to teach and training clients privately in between classes. Tiffany moved to Brewerytown and one of her clients suggested that she open her own cycling studio in Brewerytown because there was none nearby or in the neighborhood. She initially put the idea off because she had no money and did not think a cycling studio would be successful at that time.

Fast forward a few years later, Tiffany gained a business partner who pushed her to pursue her dreams. Now, Cycle Brewerytown has been open and serving the community for 2 years!

Cycle Brewerytown – The Vision

Tiffany always had a clear picture of what she wanted Cycle Brewerytown to be – a studio revolving around Hip-Hop. This studio is all about hip-hop.

During her days as a traveling spin instructor, Tiffany got in trouble for the kind of music she wanted to play during her classes. She was told it was too “dirty” or “explicit.” Tiffany likes unedited versions of songs by artists like Meek Mill and Rick Ross. She wanted to create a space where that type of music was welcomed and embraced.

Tiffany believes that this music motivates a lot of people more than other music like EDM or Pop music.

Apart from cycling classes, there are also…

Conditioning Classes

These classes are all about conditioning the body. They include exercises with battle ropes or jump ropes to get the heart rate up.

Weight Bearing Circuit Classes

During these classes, you will work with different types of weights like kettlebells, and dumbbells while using a resistance band.

Ride and Conditioning Classes

These classes incorporate both cycling and condition exercises. This class is a 30 minute split between the two workouts – cycling and conditioning.

Ride and Flow Classes

Tiffany’s favorite class – this option is a cycling class followed by a 30 minute, all hip-hop yoga flow instruction.

Tesoro Design Marketing Interview

Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with Tesoro Design in Philadelphia.

During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Brit Reed from Tesoro Design. Located on South Street in the Graduate Hospital section of the city, every Tesoro item is hand-crafted by Brit herself with ethically sourced leather. Tesoro is all about girl power!

Tesoro Design – The Story

If you love unique boutique Philadelphia shops, like Philadelphia Independents and Smak Parlour, you’re gonna love Tesoro Design.

Brit has always had a passion for the arts – she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology where she studied clothing design. During her studies, she realized that clothing design wasn’t for her. Upon graduation, she was unsure what her future would hold. Her parents are Philadelphia natives, so Brit knew that she wanted to move back to the Philadelphia area.

Brit was visiting Lancaster when she discovered a small, hand-crafted handbag store. She loved how cool, approachable, and unique the store felt.

“Lancaster is a great area for leather goods. The Amish are very skilled in leather work. The intricate leather work inspired Brit to pursue leather making. Even today, Brit still buys some of her leather products for her bags and satchels from the Amish.”

– Brit Reed

Tesoro Design – Leather Goods

At Tesoro, the focus is on handcrafted leather accessories. However, the handbags are the cornerstone of the business.

The handbags in the store focus on functionality while still aiming to be the perfect accessory for every occasion. Each handbag is handmade by Brit herself. If you pop into the store throughout the week, you can get a front-row seat to the handbag making process – Brit makes all of the handbags in the store and leaves the sewing machine on full display for customers to see.

Brit Reed - Tesoro Design

Tesoro sources as many of the materials as possible from within the United States in order to provide handbags that don’t contribute to the destruction of natural resources, towns, and people. Each purchase decision you make at Tesoro drives the industry into a better place.

When the storefront was open, Brit’s goal was to build a welcoming community. Through her work in the industry, she has met many amazing female crafters and entrepreneurs. In an effort to highlight the work of those women, Tesoro only features products made by women from Philly.

The most popular Tesoro products include:

Camo Jackets

Camo Jacket - Tesoro Design

Made in collaboration with Stone Cooper, each Camo Jacket is one-of-a-kind. Kat, the owner of Stone Cooper, found each individual patch during her world travels.

Butt Products

These products are all-inclusive. Whether it’s a bag or bracelet, Brit handmakes leather products stamped with unique booties.

The Chelsea

The Chelsea Bag

This bag is your next best friend. Perfect for travel or everyday wear, The Chelsea can be worn a number of different ways depending on your outfit or your mood!

Another key to the business is Tesoro Design’s unique events. Every Tesoro event is a DIY project so that whatever you create is special, unique, and memorable. You can check out all of the future events and reserve your seat on their website. Pricing ranges per event, but all events include the materials needed to complete the project and free food and alcoholic drinks.

Dock Street Brewery Marketing Interview

Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with Dock Street Brewery in Philadelphia.

During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Sasha and Renata Centro-Ware from Dock Street Brewery. Located in West Philadelphia, Dock Street brews with the spirit of Philadelphia’s sudsy history to create delicious handcrafted beers every week.

Check out the other Philly breweries that we have featured, including Evil Genius and Love City Brewing Company!

Dock Street Brewery – History

Dock Street Brewery was founded in 1985 by Rosemarie Centro and Jeffrey Ware. The brewery is one of the first post-prohibition craft breweries in the country.

The company started out from an investment of $1,600 with the goal to elevate the status of beer. The name, Dock Street, is a nod to the Seaport District of Philly. In the 1700s, the Seaport District was the largest producer of beer in the country.

Today, Dock Street Brewery operates out of a 110-year old, converted firehouse. The Dock Street team has also started a new venture – a cannery and tasting lounge. The lounge is located right next door to the brewery. It serves as a space for fermenting, aging, and canning beer onsite round-the-clock.

Dock Street Brewery – The Beer

Dock Street Brewery remains best known for their large selection of experimental beers.

Their most shocking concoction? The “Walker” – a tribute to AMC’s The Walking Dead. “Walker” is an American Pale Stout with notes of cranberry, wheat, barley, and goat brains (for smokiness, of course).

This beer received national acclaim. It even landing the brewery a personal call from The Walking Dead producers.

When they’re not creating crazy unique beers, Dock Street is doing its part to give back to the Philadelphia Community. One initiative that is close to their heart is their partnership with Philadelphia’s Mighty Writers. To support education, Dock Street periodically takes donations of books, pencils, and other school supplies to donate to the non-profit. When they are running this partnership, they also offer an option to text a donation as well.

Dock Street Brewery is not a stranger to star power. Fun fact – throughout the 80s and 90s, they were the official on-set beer of the American Drama thirtysomething. Dock Street was also featured in the classic film Philadelphia, being enjoyed on screen by Denzel Washington.

Riverwards Produce Market Marketing Interview

Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with Riverwards Produce Market in Philadelphia.

During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Vincent Finazzo, owner, and founder of Riverwards Produce Market, a corner store grocer located in Fishtown that aims to give the community resources for everyone to eat better and cleaner.

Subscribe to Small Business Saturday

Riverwards Produce Market opened its storefront in April of 2017. However, the market was doing business long before opening their brick-and-mortar location. The business officially started out as a produce box truck, supplying fresh produce to local small business in the city such as Philly Style Bagels and Martha Bar. The produce truck saw great success, so Vincent decided to launch a pop-up market out of a friend’s garage in Fishtown, blocks away from where they are located today.

After running the pop-up market for a summer, Vincent’s friend introduced to an amazing, historic building at the corner of Norris and Sepviva in Fishtown. He decided to take and leap and the rest is history.

The building and the beloved neighborhood destination, Riverwards Produce Market, was born.

Riverwards Produce works with close to 200 vendors to source and stock high-quality produce and grocery products. The market proudly stocks and supports as many other local businesses as possible. As you walk through the market, you will see “local” callouts on the price tags. The labels let shoppers know which products are locally sourced. We were happy to see that some of our favorite local businesses, including Zsa’s Ice Cream, Crust Vegan Bakery, and Baba’s Brew, were sitting on the shelves.

Riverwards Produce aims to maintain a sustainable, environmentally friendly approach to shopping. One way they do this is by banning plastic bags from the market. The market no longer stocks plastics bags. They offer paper bags to shoppers who didn’t bring a reusable shopping bag for free. They also offer biodegradable produce bags for 15 cents per bag. All of the money made from selling the reusable produce bags is donated to the Riverfront North Project, which is a Delaware River Cleanup Project.

This isn’t the only non-profit initiative Riverwards Produce has. For the entire year of 2019, Riverwards Produce is Partnered with the Vetri Community Partnership to run a veggie of the month program. Every month, the market features a different vegetable in the market. Riverwards donates 20% of the profits from that vegetable’s sales back to Vetri.

Verti Community Partnership has an amazing mobile cooking kitchen. They bring the kitchen directly to schools and communities to teach people healthy cooking. The Verti mobile kitchen visits Riverwards Produce from time to time, like this past Sunday, April 28th. Verti’s goal is to make cooking lessons accessible to everyone.

Riverwards Produce Market stocks a full-line of grocery products. They aim to be a neighborhood staple.

At Riverwards Produce, anyone can stop in for a last-minute meal ingredient or to do their weekly shopping. With competitive pricing and a wide range of local and organic products, Riverwards Produce is the best choice around!
